Edwin A. Gray

Edwin, 95, Brainerd, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd.

He was born May 20, 1907, near Sauk Centre. photo: obits He graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1926 and the University of Minnesota in 1932 with a secondary education degree in vocational agriculture and mathematics. He married Florence (Chute) Alcott in 1942.

He taught in Tracy until 1945 when they moved to Brainerd. He taught agriculture until 1960 at the Washington High School and then moved to Franklin Junior High where he taught mathematics until retiring in 1973.

He was active as a leader in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Golden Kiwanis, the Future Farmers of America, Boy Scouts, Young Farmers, Northland Arboretum, Brainerd Nordic Ski Club and the men's Garden Club. He received state and national honors for his work including an honorary American Farmer degree at the FFA national convention in Kansas City in 1953.

Survivors include his children, Bruce, Clovis, N.M., Marian, Prescott, Ariz., Loren, Fort Atkinson, Wis., and Mark, Brainerd; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

His wife and two sisters, Evelyn and Winifred, died earlier.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Episcopal Church Columbarium Fund or to the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd.

Friends may call an hour before services Saturday at the church.
